In America, about 20% of the population, or 66 million people, has not been exposed to COVID or the vaccine, and it’s these people who could risk catching a potentially serious case Omicron.
South Africa, on the other hand, has had around 70 percent of its population exposed to COVID. Their immune systems have seen similar coronavirus variants, so may be better protected.
